Ed Carptenter - Bio

Ed Carpenter - Bio

Growing up with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in his back yard and Tony and Laura George as parents, Ed Carpenter was no stranger to racing. However, Carpenter was made aware early on by his parents that his opportunity to race was leveraged upon his performance in the classroom.

Carpenter began racing at eight years old and balanced racing and education throughout much of his career. Earning a Bachelors of Science degree in marketing from Butler University in 2003, Carpenter graduated from Butler just weeks before he won the Freedom 100 Indy Pro Series race at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

With a college degree now under his belt, Carpenter is able to focus on several other activities when he’s not racing. Away from the track, Carpenter follows professional football and is an Indianapolis Colts season ticket holder. He is also an avid cyclist, water skiier and enjoys working out. In fact, he had the opportunity to receive conditioning and endurance training from renowned coaches at the prominent Carmichael Training Systems (CTS). CTS has paved the way for some of the world’s greatest athletes including six-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong and 2000 Olympic Time Trial Silver Medalist and World Champion Mari Holden.

Carpenter resides in Indianapolis with his wife, Heather, his newborn daughter Makenna, and their two dogs Bentley (Rottweiler) and Roscoe (Chihuahua). Keep up with Carpenter, his daughter and his family at http://makennaalayne.blogspot.com.

Ed Carpenter is determined to make his fifth season, the 2008 season, his best season to date. Last year Carpenter recorded six top-10 finishes, but misfortune and missed opportunities cost him even more success.  It is the 2006 season that Carpenter would like to build off of where he recorded a personal best start (4th at Michigan International Speedway) and best finish (5th at Chicagoland Speedway). The 2008 season will be Carpenter’s fourth with Vision Racing since joining the team in its inaugural season and make no mistake, he’s got his eye on a first victory for both he and the team.

Ed Carpenter made his IndyCar Series debut at Chicagoland Speedway in 2003 for PDM Racing, which made him the first driver to compete in an Indy Pro Series event and an IndyCar Series event on the same weekend.
