Team Owners - Patrick Dempsey
Co-Owner, Vision Racing
While he hails from Lewiston, Maine, he’s known across America and around the globe as “McDreamy” for his role as “Dr. Derek Shepherd” in ABC’s hit TV drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” as well as for his scene-stealing turns in such ‘80s nostalgia classics such as "Can’t Buy Me Love" and "Loverboy", but at Vision Racing Patrick Dempsey is just another one of the guys after becoming a fellow team co-owner in 2006.
After attending the 2004 Indianapolis 500 as a “celebrity guest” and meeting Vision Racing owners Tony and Laura George, Patrick’s longtime passion for racing began to flourish. A year later, following another meeting with the Georges in May 2005, Dempsey expressed a keen interest for their new team and followed IndyCar competition diligently throughout the 2005 season. That off-season, Dempsey and the George family officially partnered and the team announced Dempsey as a co-owner of Vision Racing.
As an actor turned racer, Dempsey’s no stranger to the racetrack when he’s not in front of the camera. He’s a true racer at heart and currently driving professionally in the GT class sports car racing with Hypersport and competed in the 2009 Grand American Sports Car Series’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Most recently, Dempsey also took the helm of a Ferrari F430 GT with Team Seattle in the 2009 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
It was trips to the Indianapolis 500 with his father as a youngster that initially gave Dempsey the itch. And he’s been scratching that itch ever since as a car enthusiast, professional driver, and IndyCar Series team owner. What else would one expect from a guy whose everyday car is a classic “James Dean” 1959 356 Porsche he purchased from the rewards of one of his first acting jobs?
Dempsey and wife Jillian Fink share their lives with daughter, Talula (Feb 2002), and twin boys Darby and Sullivan (Feb 2007).
